Triceps Tendinopathy
The main action of the Triceps Brachii is to extend or straighten the elbow. It is composed of three separate muscles heads namely the medial, lateral and long head which originate from the humerus and scapula and together insert onto the point of the elbow (Olecranon).

With Triceps tendinopathy, there is often a history of repetitive extension or straightening of the elbow or a single event involving forceful elbow extension. This condition is therefore more commonly seen in throwing athletes such as shot putters, boxers and weightlifters.
Often the clinical picture is that of localized pain over the triceps tendon and this condition tends to get aggravated by performing activities which contract the triceps musculature. As with any injury to the muscle tendon complex, the inherent structure of the Triceps tendon can change leading to a tendinopathy
Triceps Tendinopathy treatment
At our City of London based chiropractic and Sports Injuries Clinic, our treatment approach is based on initially reducing the pain and relieving the tension on the muscle tendon complex through soft tissue work, ultrasound, resisted isometric and postural exercises. In addition, it is important to recognise the inciting factors which have contributed to the development of the tendinopathy and alter these accordingly.
